Lyka Pet Food has established a new $16 million manufacturing facility and national distribution centre in Dandenong South, Victoria.
The facility will create more than 100 new jobs and include new production lines and advanced, automated equipment that is the first of its kind in Australia.
The facility includes a national distribution centre that will enable up to four times the current distribution of the product, improving delivery times, reducing food miles, and increasing the company’s ability to supply pet food across Australia.
Last year, Lyka secured $25 million in additional Series B funding, following an initial raise of $30 million six months prior.
Lyka Pet Food was established in 2018 when Anna Podolsky decided to ditch store bought pet food and instead cook for her beloved dog Lyka from scratch. The company was co-founded by renowned integrative veterinarian Dr Matthew Muir.
Lyka’s meals can be custom designed to accommodate a dog’s age, breed, weight, activity level, and food sensitivities, and because the food is delivered fresh and is human grade, there’s also no need to add preservatives to the custom formulations.
The company will source many of its ingredients from local suppliers in the region, generating millions of dollars in value for Victoria’s supply chain partners, including agricultural producers and logistics providers.
