The OFI Executive Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Jonathan Poh, Otolith Enrichment (Singapore), as the Secretary General to the Executive Board (EB). Jonathan is the first Asian representative for the Secretary General (SG) position and replaces Mr Paul Bakuwel, who has been the SG since 2016.
Hailing from Singapore, Jonathan graduated from the University of Tasmania with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aquaculture and a Master in Business Administration (MBA). Jonathan is no stranger to the aquarium industry, having been a passionate hobbyist for many years, as well as serving as the Account Manager (Lead) for the land-based fish farms during his time in the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA), which provided him with an in-depth understanding of the ornamental fish and aquaculture industries. A passionate educator, Jonathan currently serves as an adjunct and sessional lecturer at Temasek Polytechnic and James Cook University Singapore, for courses relating to Aquaculture, and believes in inspiring the next generation of aquaculturists. He has also been sought as an industry consultant for exporters.
Jonathan is excited about his new appointment and said “I am looking forward to working with the rest of the EB members for the betterment of the industry. I hopes my expertise in aquaculture and agriculture will come in useful and I am honoured to join in the excellent work that OFI is doing”. OFI President, Shane Willis stated that “I would like to thank Paul Bakuwel our previous Secretary General for all his hard work over the past years. I am also looking forward to working with Jonathan, it is great to have an injection of youth into our organization and his background in working within the Singapore aquarium industry will no doubt be invaluable for our organization.”
Join us to welcome Jonathan in his new position with OFI. We would also like to thank Paul for his immense contribution as SG of OFI over the last 5 years and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.
