Australia’s top 10 most popular dog breeds have been named, with the Cavoodle taking out the number one spot.
The survey by HCF Pet Insurance found the most popular dog breeds are the Cavoodle, Maltese Cross and Labrador. The most popular names are Charlie, Bella and Ruby.
Rose, a breeder at Teddy Bear Cavoodles in the Blue Mountains, said people adopt Cavoodles for a variety of different reasons spanning from pets for families to assisted companions to people healing from brain injuries.
“The love and joy you receive from a puppy is truly heartwarming, I experience it in my own family as we love and raise our puppies, I then see it in the parents and children when the puppies find their new homes.”
Lorraine Thomas, HCF Chief Officer Product and Innovation, said that the increase of working from home has had an impact on the rise of dog ownership in the country.
“We know that almost two thirds of Aussie homes have pets – in fact there are more pets in Australia than there are people, and almost 40 per cent of homes have at least one dog which is a trend on the rise now that we are spending more time working and learning from home.”
The top 10 dog breeds, in order of popularity, are: Cavoodle, Maltese Cross, Labrador, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Golden Retriever, Border Collie, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Labradoodle, Spoodle and German Shepherd.
