From its humble beginnings 40 years ago, Kellyville Pets is now one of Australia’s most recognisable independent pet retailers.

Kellyville Pets started in 1983 when owner John Grima was just 16. The store was no bigger than a single room, and right from the start, the business was dedicated to promoting responsible pet ownership and matching the right person with the right pet.

Forty years on, John and his wife Siggy still own the business and have grown Kellyville Pets to be one of Australia’s largest and leading independent pet retailers, employing over 70 specialist staff. The evolution of Kellyville Pets has been a remarkable and dynamic process, shaped by its commitment to excellence and passion for animal welfare.

Over the years, Kellyville Pets has undergone significant transformations to become the reputable establishment it is today. Speaking to Pet Industry News, Kellyville listed some of the key aspects of the store’s evolution:

Expansion of Offerings: What started as a humble pet store has evolved into a comprehensive destination for pet enthusiasts. We have expanded our offerings to include a diverse range of pets, premium pet products, and specialised services, catering to the varied needs of our customers.

Emphasis on Education: Recognising the importance of informed pet ownership, we have placed a strong emphasis on education. There’s so much pet knowledge bustling under one roof that we have our very own Pet School. Launched in 1994, Kellyville Pets was one of the first establishments to launch a school for pet parents and their pets, even having now-famous Dr. Chris Brown attend our school back in the day.

Education is a huge part of who we are, because an informed pet parent can make the best choices for their forever-friend. Whether you’re enrolling in Pet School in-store or learning online, we’ve got the Petsperts teaching you all the tips and tricks for your favourite pets. We host a variety of educational courses for both before and after the addition of your new family member. For families that are considering a furry or reptile addition, we offer courses, so everyone is equipped with the knowledge of how to choose the right pet for them and their lifestyle and what to expect. For families who have already made an informed decision to take the leap into puppy or reptile ownership, we host online and in-store courses to assist with training and socialisation, so that their pet can grow into a well-rounded member of the family.

State-of-the-Art Facilities: As part of our commitment to animal welfare, we have invested in state-of-the-art facilities to ensure the health and well-being of the animals in our care. Our modern and spacious environments aim to provide a comfortable and stimulating experience for both pets, their owners, and all-round animal lovers.

Community Engagement: Kellyville Pets has become an integral part of the community, actively engaging with local residents and organisations. We participate in and support various community events, fostering a sense of connection and shared values. We partner with adoption agencies to find rescue pets suitable loving homes and fundraise for organisations like the Animal Welfare League.

Adaptation to Industry Trends: Staying abreast of industry trends and technological advancements, we have incorporated modern practices into our operations. From online platforms for easy access to products and information to sustainable and eco-friendly initiatives, we continually adapt to meet the evolving needs of our customers.

To celebrate this significant milestone, Kellyville Pets has plans to commemorate and express its gratitude to its loyal customers and community.

Throughout the year, Kellyville is hosting customer appreciation events to express its gratitude for the unwavering support received over the past four decades. These events will feature exclusive discounts, promotions, and interactive activities for valued customers and pet parents.

There will also be pet adoption drives, community engagement initiatives, and social media campaigns sharing stories, memories, and updates, inviting everyone to take part in marking this special year.
