Working with his Mum, Son, and family, makes Peter Bonney’s role as Director of Bonnies Dog Obedience and Puppy School a joy and not just a job.

With a commitment to ensuring the best possible partnership between dog and owner, Bonney has continued the legacy of his parents, Val and Bruce, in making his school one of the most recognised in the country.

After spending 20 years travelling the world as an International Tour Director, Bonney moved back to Brisbane, and in 2010 began working with his parents and son Christian at Bonnies Dog Obedience and Puppy School.

“It took years to really start to appreciate and understand dogs – from their point of view. This could only happen because of the team of professional dog trainers that Mum and Dad were leading. They are part of the Bonney family and as such shared an enormous amount of high value information with me.

“After a number of years working with the trainers as they were teaching their classes, I started to take my own classes for puppies and basic obedience and the world opened up for me.”

Bonney said there is there is so much to know about canines like their breeds, what they were created for, what is their physiology and psychology, temperament, disposition and much more.

“Appreciating the vast differences of opinions regarding training methodologies is a continuing work in progress. Balancing the canine training method chosen with the individual person and circumstances they live in is unquestionably our main focus.”

This is one of the reasons why Bonnies Dog Obedience and Puppy School updates their training curriculum on a yearly basis.

“Small changes and additions are not simply added to make a change, but to increase the likelihood of success for our clients and team. We like to learn from everyone. At Bonnies we have only one goal – to set your family and canine mate up for success.”

Bonney said he was stunned to be recently named in the Pet Industry News’ Game Changers list, but to have as good a name in the industry as his parents have, he will have to work very hard.
