PetSure has announced extended pet insurance coverage for existing Australian policyholders impacted by ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred.

PetSure will provide cover for pet health complications arising from the cyclone, regardless of policy type or coverage level. Additionally, the insurer will reimburse the full cost of emergency boarding for pets of displaced or evacuated customers, up to the policy’s annual benefit limit, without applying sub-limits, excess, or benefit percentage reductions.

Waiting periods and exclusions for cyclone-related pet health issues will also be waived until 30 April 2025, after which standard policy terms will apply. Other policy conditions, including annual limits, will remain unchanged.

PetSure said it recognises the serious risks extreme weather poses to pets, from injuries to stress-related conditions and that its aim is to support customers and ensure their pets receive the care they need.

To qualify for an ex-gratia claim, policyholders must be located within or near an affected zone, as determined by PetSure’s claims team. Customers will need to provide documents, such as paid invoices, proving the pet health issue or emergency boarding expense was directly caused by the cyclone.

Existing Australian policyholders seeking assistance can contact PetSure for further details on eligibility and claims.
