A new partnership will see Royal Canin supply science-based nutrition to the dogs in Zoo Victoria’s Wildlife Detection Dog Program.
Working with specially trained dogs, the program uses their superior sense of smell to aid researchers in locating endangered wildlife across Victoria.
Dean Richardson, Sustainability and Partnership Manager at Royal Canin, said the nutrition company was thrilled to provide their scientifically formulated nutrition for these remarkable dogs.
“At Royal Canin, we understand the profound link between nutrition and overall well-being. By providing the best possible food for the unique needs of these working dogs, we’re not only helping them to perform at their best but also helping Victoria’s native animals– something that aligns with our broader commitment to sustainability.”
Naomi Hodgens, Wildlife Detection Dog Officer at Zoos Victoria, said the dogs play a crucial role in the success of their conservation programs, and their well-being is essential to their effectiveness.
“We are already seeing the benefits of the great diets Royal Canin provides, so it’s wonderful to now partner in an official capacity providing optimal nutrition to our wildlife detection dogs.”
Some of the dogs benefiting from this nutrition include Labrador Moss, who discovered an unknown population of Broad-toothed Rats; Kip the Kelpie-cross, who searches for Platypus sleeping in burrows; or Finn the Border-Collie, who helps biologists monitor Baw Baw Frogs in the wild.
