Logan City Council has officially opened its newly upgraded Animal Management Centre in Kingston, following a $21 million redevelopment.

The facility, located at 213 Queens Road, was showcased during a community open day, allowing residents to tour the site and meet animals ready for adoption.

Mayor Jon Raven said the centre had been designed with Logan’s future in mind, noting the city is home to more than 60,000 registered cats and dogs.

“More people means more furry – and feathered – additions to our city every year. Which is why we need our new and improved Animal Management Centre to keep us ahead of the pack.

“The centre provides top-notch care for animals and has plenty of outdoor and indoor space for people to have a pat or a play with their prospective pet. Importantly, we’ve also upgraded the centre’s onsite vet clinic, which provides low-cost desexing and microchipping to help encourage responsible pet ownership across the city.”

The redevelopment includes new facilities to house up to 112 cats and 30 dogs, featuring improved ventilation systems, UV filtration to reduce disease transmission, and soundproofed areas to limit noise.

New amenities include a sensory garden, an aviary, and long-stay kennels for dogs under behavioural assessment or compliance processes. The centre also supports council operations with a modern laboratory for mosquito identification and a native fish breeding area.

Sustainability features such as solar panels and electric vehicle charging stations have also been installed.

Construction of the upgraded centre began after funding was first allocated in 2020.
