Pound Paws and The Golden Sheaf are set to host the next instalment of the Pound Paws Dog Day in Double Bay on Sunday 31 August, with the event continuing its focus on rescue advocacy and public education around responsible pet ownership.
Running from 12pm to 4pm, the free, family-friendly event is supported by Woollahra Council, Vet HQ, and InnoVet Animal Health (Dog Treats). Designed to bring the pet industry, local government and the community together, the event will highlight the benefits of adoption and promote animal welfare services in an engaging, highly visible format.
First launched nearly a decade ago, Pound Paws Dog Day has grown into a nationally recognised campaign, gaining media attention through programs such as The Morning Show and The Living Room, and acting as a key platform for industry education and outreach.
“For almost 10 years, Pound Paws has been on a mission to make pet adoption more accessible and understood across Australia,” said Brittany Bloomer, Founder of Pound Paws. “Through our Dog Day events, we’ve found that the best way to create real impact is by engaging the community in a fun, memorable way. These events not only help rescue dogs find loving homes – they also educate, connect, and inspire.”
Community engagement meets pet industry showcase
The event will feature a mix of rescue dog meet-and-greets, market stalls from boutique and artisan pet brands, and interactive workshops for children, positioning it as both a public-facing activation and a valuable awareness opportunity for the industry.
One of the headline attractions will be the Red Carpet ‘Paw-parazzi’ arrivals, giving dogs and their owners a moment in the spotlight as they pose alongside sports cars and media cameras. Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet adoptable dogs from local NSW rescue organisations, as well as enjoy a celebrity meet-and-greet with Valerie the Dachshund, who made headlines after being found more than 500 days after going missing on Kangaroo Island.
The event will also host Best Trick and Best Dressed dog competitions, judged by a panel including Martine Chippendale (Real Housewives of Sydney), Dr Geoff Golovsky (Vet HQ), and local councillors. Guests can indulge in dog-friendly dining, featuring a specially curated menu and ‘paw-tinis,’ while browsing pet market stalls showcasing local and emerging brands.
Children aged four and over are invited to participate in the Puppy Adoption Playdate Workshop, designed to teach basic pet care through a plush toy adoption experience, fostering education and compassion in the next generation of animal lovers.
For participating brands and organisations, the event offers direct engagement with pet owners, a platform for demonstrating product benefits, and alignment with key messages around ethical sourcing, animal welfare, and community connection.
The inclusion of Vet HQ, InnoVet, and Woollahra Council as event partners signals the growing alignment between community events and industry stakeholders seeking to raise awareness, build relationships, and promote best-practice messaging in animal care.
The event’s structure allows for live product sampling, one-on-one consultations, and branded experiences in a high-footfall, pet-friendly venue in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. A VIP table booking system also enables premium engagement opportunities with pet owners.
